"I worked with Dr. Amy Hooper after injuring my shoulder in a bike crash. Amy shared in my definition of success and targeted her approach toward getting me back to the activities I enjoy, especially swimming. Through a combination of exercises and dry needling, I experienced a significant reduction in shoulder pain with each weekly appointment. As Amy predicted, I was fully pain-free after four appointments—and I learned about my body's movement patterns in the process. Throughout, I appreciated Amy's genuine listening skills, detailed explanations, and willingness to answer any and all questions. Definitely recommend!"

What people are saying

  • "Eastside Movement Company is amazing! I worked with Erin for several months on multiple injuries, first my shoulder and ankle, then my hip and finger. She adapted my plan each time, shifting priorities and exercises to fit my changing needs. Erin was extremely knowledgeable and I loved chatting during our sessions. Thanks to Erin, I'm now back to playing the sports I love and have the tools and confidence to keep progressing on my own. Highly recommend Erin and Eastside Movement Company!"

  • "Spencer Straddeck is the best PT I've ever worked with. I was dealing with chronic shoulder and back issues, had seen a handful of PT's before without resolution. Spencer was extremely thorough in his evaluation and was able to identify the root cause of the issues and worked with me on correcting them. Within a few weeks I was back to doing bench press and back squat, which I hadn't done in years. He is extremely knowledgeable and great at his job, and have recommended him to everyone I know."

    Scott Mash

  • "I have had an amazing experience working with Dr. Emily Tran at Eastside Movement throughout my second pregnancy and into postpartum. Thanks to working with Emily on pelvic floor, overall strength training, and working through a long-term shoulder injury, I felt way stronger and confident in my body and in considerably less pain than my first pregnancy. Emily is also very knowledgeable about birth prep and postpartum recovery. I can't recommend Eastside movement and Dr. Emily more highly!"

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a physical therapist for shoulder pain?

No, you do not need a referral to see a physical therapist in Texas. You can schedule directly with us for an evaluation and treatment. If you have insurance that requires a referral, we can help guide you through that process, but most of our clients come to us directly.

How long does shoulder pain physical therapy take?

The length of treatment depends on your specific condition, goals, and how your body responds to therapy. Many of our clients experience significant pain relief within 4-6 sessions, though some shoulder conditions may require longer treatment to address the root cause and prevent future issues. We'll create a personalized timeline during your evaluation.

Do you take insurance for shoulder pain treatment?

We are an out-of-network provider, which means we do not bill insurance directly. However, many of our clients are able to use their out-of-network benefits for reimbursement. We provide superbills that you can submit to your insurance company, and we're happy to help you understand your coverage. This model allows us to provide longer, more personalized sessions without insurance restrictions.

What should I wear to my first shoulder pain physical therapy appointment?

Wear comfortable, athletic clothing that allows you to move freely and gives us easy access to your shoulder. A tank top or loose-fitting t-shirt works well. If you have any imaging (X-rays, MRIs), previous physical therapy notes, or a list of current medications, feel free to bring those along. Most importantly, come ready to share your story—we want to hear about your pain, your goals, and what matters most to you.

What makes Eastside Movement different from other physical therapy clinics in Austin?

We're an athlete-driven, out-of-network clinic that focuses on personalized, root-cause care—not just symptom management. Our team is made up of Doctors of Physical Therapy who are also lifelong athletes, so we understand what it takes to get back to the activities you love. We offer one-on-one 60-75 minute sessions focused entirely on you, with a holistic approach that addresses the whole body, not just the site of pain.
